BSN Alumni Reunion Celebrates Enduring Friendships and Memories

On Saturday 4 July, at Senior School Voorschoten (SSV), old friends reconnected and celebrated their shared BSN experience, filling the atrium with conversation, laughter, and plenty of hugs.

Classes from the early 1990s were particularly well represented though there were also alumni from both earlier and more recent years. Many were delighted to catch up with former teachers who had played such an important role in their BSN journeys.

For some, the reunion was the second celebration of the day. Several alumni arrived directly from the 50th anniversary event of the BSN Rugby Club—now known as the Wassenaar Warriors—wearing eye-catching commemorative rugby shirts. You can view photographs from this event, here.

Alumni were warmly welcomed back to campus by SSV Headteacher Patrick Heuff, who encouraged them to support current BSN learners with their careers by offering advice or work experience opportunities.

Patrick then introduced BSN CEO Louise Simpson, who reflected on the strength of the BSN alumni community and the important place alumni will hold in the school's journey towards its centenary in 2031.

“At its heart, our centenary is about people.”

Throughout the afternoon, alumni were reminded of the many shared experiences and connections that have shaped the BSN community over the years. They gathered around displays of archive photographs, searching for familiar faces and reliving the memories. Meanwhile, an automated photobooth gave guests the chance to capture fresh memories together and print their own photo strips as a souvenir of the reunion.

One of the highlights of the afternoon was a guided tour of the SSV campus led by a team of enthusiastic learner volunteers. So much time was spent chatting and reminiscing that the large group never quite managed to complete a full tour—a sure sign that everyone was enjoying themselves. (There’s always next time).  Later, several of the learners treated guests to impressive vocal and musical performances, showcasing the talent that continues to be nurtured across the school.

Another highlight was a reading by Mr Weston of Will Leed's competition-winning anecdote about a daring prank. Delivered with characteristic deadpan humour and impeccable comic timing, the story delighted the audience. It was made all the more entertaining by the fact that Mr Weston was not just the narrator, but also one of the story's central characters.

The afternoon seemed to fly by. As conversations continued and plans were made to stay in touch, alumni headed off to an evening event organised by BSN alumnus Simon Weinberg. And suddenly it was quiet again in the Atrium, a strange contrast.

Reflecting on the day, Louise Simpson captured what makes events like these so meaningful:

“Events like this are very special. They remind us that the BSN is not simply a school—it is a community that extends far beyond our campuses, across countries, careers, and generations. Each of you is part of the BSN story, and you continue to shape what this community means in the world today.”

The reunion was a wonderful reminder that while much may change after graduation, the connections formed at BSN continue to endure, bringing alumni back together year after year.
